Know the term "Slow Learner". The meaning and definition of the term "slow learner" has been provided in this article. The word is relatively a new term is used for the backward students in schools.

Slow learner Meaning

The term slow learners is relatively a new term being used for the type of learners traditionally known as backward students in schools. It was evolved and carried by the educational psychologists for being used to a group of less able students with IQs between 70 and 85. In this way, the task of labeling a child as slow, weak (underachiever), or backward seems to be quite identical to each other. That is why now all these terms slow learners, underachievers, and educationally backward children are mostly used as synonyms. Thus, the term educationally backward children may carry a wide meaning and scope as carried by the umbrella term slow learners. Let us witness this truth by going through some of the popular definitions of these terms backwardness and backward children in the educational context.

Definition of Slow learner

Barton Hall. Backwardness, in general, is applied to cases where their educatiOnal attainment falls below the level of their natural abilities. a Schonell: Backward pupil is one who, compared with other pupils of the same chronological age, shows marked educational deficiency.0 Burt: He has used the term educational quotient for separating backward children in the class. According to him the children who have EQ less than 85 are backward. Education Quotient is calculated by the following formula: EQ, = (Education achievement/chronological age) X 100)

Am I right that borderline intellectual functioning is a developmental disorder?

When I Google Searched if borderline intellectual functioning is a developmental disorder. I came a cross this website ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4967780 and it said that According to DSM and ICD, borderline intellectual functioning is not a disorder, but they do do comprise a vulnerable group.

It also says that many people with many people with borderline intellectual functioning do not have psychiatric disorders, but they are more vulnerable to the development of mental health problems than people of average or above average intelligence and may also be more vulnerable than people with mild intellectual disability.

If having borderline intellectual functioning makes you more vulnerable to the development of mental health problems, then it should be considered a developmental disorder.

Borderline intellectual functioning should always have been and always should be included in DSM editions and other classification systems such as the International Classification of Diseases, such as DSM-5 and ICD 11, etc.

I agree with with this medical website. Borderline intellectual functioning is a developmental disorder.

I also think that borderline intellectual functioning should be considered the mildest form of intellectual disability.

I also think that having an IQ 85–70 makes your more vulnerable to have issues with reasoning, problem solving, planning, abstract thinking, judgment, academic learning, and learning from experience.

Having an IQ of 69–55 can make you more vulnerable to deficits in adaptive functioning.

Having an IQ 54–48 is a high risk to have deficits in adaptive functioning.

Having an IQ of of 47–39 and under is a severe risk to have deficits in adaptive functioning.

I felt so confused, because I have borderline intellectual functioning, even though I have history of being diagnosed with Mental Retardation Unspecified when I was a toddler.
