Social Science and the Secondary School curriculum
Social Science is the study of human activities and human relationships. It is the theory part of human affairs. On the other hand the education of the secondary level should provide complete knowledge about human society and human relations. Therefore Social Science is very important in secondary level curriculum due to the following reasons.
1. Social Science follows adult approach:- Social Sciences can provide real knowledge about the society to the students of secondary level.
2. Social Science emphasizes knowledge:- Social Science emphasizes knowledge about human affairs in the students.
3. It finds new truth in the society:- Social Science helps students of secondary level to know new truth about the human relation.
4. Acquainted with current affairs:- Social Science is the subject which acquaints the children with current affairs in politics and economics.
5. Scientific study of man:- Social Science studies man and activities in systematic and scientific ways.
6. Develops human value:- Social Science also develops human value. It also increases the attitude to develop human relations.
7. Prepares good citizen:- Good citizen for the century can be prepared if we include social sciences in the curriculum at the secondary level.
8. Satisfy psychological needs:- Social Science can satisfy the psychological needs of knowledge of students of secondary level.
Thus we can say that Social Science has an important place in the curriculum of the secondary level.
